Green Bay/ESPN

December 2002, Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings, Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisconsin. Oudoor (and Windy) Football Stadium.

This was the first use by ESPN of the Holophone system for a live sporting event.

Ron Scalise was the engineer in charge of the event. He used the Holophone audio for surround effects for the Surround broadcast over Stereo lines using SRS Technologies' Circle Surround® Encoding. Finally. True surround sound over stereo lines..

We only received the analog signal live back at Holophone HQ in Toronto, through TSN (The Sports Network), and the game was decoded using a Marantz receiver with SRS Circle Surround decoding . It sounded awesome: Big and rich like a Pro-Football game should!
